Yoga has been practised for thousands of years and literally means ‘to join’.
It brings your body and mind together, and is built on three main elements – exercise, breathing and meditation.
Emily has been on her own yoga journey since 2019, when she first began yoga she enjoyed the improvements she felt in her physical strength, posture and flexibility. On top of this she also had an increased calmness and peace. It is from these daily rewards that Emily pursued her yoga teaching qualification and then decided to become fully qualified in 2020. Emily enjoys teaching yoga to encourage a strength in mind and body. She has 3 years and over 200 hours of yoga teaching experience.
Emily produces interesting and varied classes which clients never tire of, her lessons are tailored to suit individual client needs. During classes Emily will offer different options, especially for more challenging poses. Whether you're a newbie to yoga or an experienced yogi Emily's yoga classes are suitable for all ages and abilities - each person can work at their comfort level and those with more experience will be guided to extend their practise.
When Emily is not in a yoga studio she can be found teaching children as an outdoor education provider. She is also currently training as a Certified Menopause Coach.
Emily's Yoga Classes:
Yoga Flow for All:
This is a Hatha Yoga Flow and Yin class for everyone; suitable for beginners who are new to yoga and to those who have been practising for a while. Emily will work through good technique, appropriate to the individual body whilst moving through both flow sequences and static poses. Emily will incorporate the somatic healing of yoga through Yin (deep stretch) poses and weave in breathwork to support the nervous system and the physical exertion of Yoga. This Yoga class will help improve flexibility, strength and coordination but also help promote mental strength, better sleep, improved digestion and a deeper intuition into how your body works and what it needs.
Positive Menopause Yoga:
Suitable for women at any stage of peri- to post- menopause.
Menopause is a natural and inevitable stage in every woman’s life and can be accompanied by numerous physical, emotional, and hormonal changes that significantly impact a woman’s quality of life. Through understanding and awareness of your physical and emotional body, menopause can be seen as an opportunity for renewal and personal growth rather than a disease or decline. During the class Emily will focus on; building strength, retaining muscle mass and improving bone density (all of which can lessen during menopause). She will incorporate breathwork to support relaxation and alleviate anxiety and teach poses and sequences that help regulate the endocrine (hormonal) system.
Whether you are in the first stage of peri menopause (the beginnings of hormonal fluctuations; irregular periods, mood changes, anxiety about the changes), in menopause itself (with or without intense physical or emotional changes), or in post menopause (possible facing new health or life challenges and emotional fluctuations), Emily's class will support you both physically and emotionally. Yoga is proven to be of great benefit to women of all ages and stages of life. Emily feels strongly that understanding our body can only help improve our quality of life during these transitions.
Emily is currently training as a Certified Menopause Coach.
Dance Yoga Fusion:
This class will incorporate yoga poses and breathwork into simple contemporary dance routines to get the energy moving, increase flexibility, strength and posture. Emily's training in both disciplines will help you get fit without realising it!!! Great music to feed the soul too!
Online Classes:
Emily will also offer the 'Yoga Flow for All' classes on Zoom.
What is Yoga:
Yoga has been practised for thousands of years and literally means ‘to join’. It brings your body and mind together, and is built on three main elements – exercise, breathing and meditation. It has been scientifically proven that yoga can increase cardiovascular fitness, improve muscular strength, normalise blood pressure levels, improve flexibility and reduce inflammation and stress in the body. It has many other health benefits:
Improved mental health & confidence: Through regular practise, yoga can help to reduce anxiety and depression. Yoga can help to improve our attention span and concentration. Taking regular exercise has been proven to relieve stress and bring a sense of well-being through the balance of mind and body. It can also help promote positive body image and self-esteem.
Increase in flexibility: Yoga will gently improve your flexibility and improve the range of motion in tight areas such as hamstrings, back, shoulders, and hips. Yoga will help with better joint health for now and the future.
Improved circulation & energy flow: When practiced regularly Yoga can help to increase blood flow. The benefits of improved circulation include reduced risk of heart disease, increased energy levels, improved mental clarity, and an overall sense of well-being.
Increase in strength & bone density: Regular Yoga practice can help maintain healthy joints by encouraging the body's natural joint lubricant's to flow. Studies show yoga can increase bone density which helps prevent breaks. Gentle yoga involving weight-bearing poses, such as downward dog can build strength and encourage good posture. You may initially be using muscles that may not be used on a daily basis but after continued practice you will find that your muscles will be much more toned.
Improved sleep and ability to relax: Yoga is a renowned antidote to anxiety, it can relieve tension and promotes improved relaxation and sleeping patterns. Studies show that Yoga increases focus and concentration and lowers levels of the stress hormone cortisol.
